Dynamite has made two creative team announcements at New York Comic Con.

Jason Aaron will be writing the series Thundarr the Barbarian, the first time that character will be featured in comics. Aaron will be joined by artist Kewber Baal, with the series launching in January.

The 1980s cartoon series put sword and sorcery components — including wizards and monsters — into a post-apocalyptic future earth. The cartoon’s distinctive look was due to production design by Jack Kirby and character design by Alex Toth, while Steve Gerber was the principal original creator.

Said Aaron, “This strange new world arisen from the old, a world of savagery, super-science and sorcery, as created by so many comic book legends, imprinted on me in a profound way at an early age.” Thundarr’s companions Princess Ariel and Ookla the Mok will join him in fighting to prevent the last humans from becoming slaves to mutants or evil wizards. Also promised is the story of Thundarr’s origin, including how he gained the Sunsword and his first meetings with Ariel and Ookla.

The series will have plenty of variant covers. Initial artists announced include Rob Liefeld, Dan Panosian, Francesco Mattina, Michael Cho, Joseph Michael Linsner, Björn Barends, and more.

Also announced was the reunion of the original Ben 10 creative team. Creators Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven T. Seagle formed Man of Action Entertainment, and led by Casey, those creators will provide new Ben 10 adventures in the comic book series starting in February. The group will provide creative direction with individuals providing scripts for various issues. Art for the series is by Robert Carey.

The comic promised to update the Ben 10 concept for modern audiences with a straightforward, action-oriented approach. Issue #1 will start with an updated origin. Said Casey, “we’re psyched to finally present a vision of Ben and his mythology in the manner and format that we’ve always wanted to see. This is basically a straight-up superhero comic that’s going to compete with every major series out there. This is ‘Ultimate’ or ‘Absolute’ Ben 10. We guarantee, this is the best that Ben 10 has ever been.”

These announcements follow their announcement at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con that these comics were coming (see “Dynamite Unveils Five“). Both series are produced in conjunction with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products.
