Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, the first Magic: The Gathering expansion set scheduled to release next year, will launch with at least two pre-constructed commander decks, as revealed by a couple of Amazon product pages. Two new bundles listed on Amazon reveal several details about the upcoming Neon Dynasty decks, which haven’t yet been officially announced by Wizards of the Coast.
First and foremost among the details are the decks’ names – Buckle Up and Upgrades Unleashed. Each deck will include the usual 100 cards, designed to be played straight out of the box, alongside two foil cards, one foil-etched display commander card, ten double-sided tokens, and a life tracker. In the listings, both decks come bundled with a Mythic Edition Premium Alcove Tower deck box, and neither deck currently has an individual product page outside of the bundles.
Given the extent to which the names of past pre-con commander decks have informed and reflected the cards found within them, there’s much speculation over what themes and mechanics these new decks will involve. Buckle Up suggests the presence of vehicles, which would be fitting for Neon Dynasty’s cyberpunk, technologically-heavy theme. It also wouldn’t be much of a stretch from past MTG releases, with an entire Vehicle mechanic cropping up in 2016’s Kaladesh set.
Upgrades Unleashed meanwhile may hint at some kind of cybernetic enhancement cards, or possibly a new Upgrades mechanic. While neuro-altering machines aren’t exactly a staple of MTG, it’s not much of a leap from magical Enchantments to sci-fi enhancements.
Check out the Buckle Up and Upgrades Unleashed commander bundles listed on. They’re billed to release on February 18, along with the rest of the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty set.
Neon Dynasty will be the first expansion set of Magic: The Gathering’s 2022 release schedule. Returning to the titular plane that hasn’t been featured since 2005’s original Kamigawa block, it’s taking us a whopping 1200 years into the future. So far, details of MTG’s first-ever science fiction set are sparse, but we know it will feature a cyber ninja planeswalker named Kaito and reintroduce some mechanics of the original Kamigawa set with a cyberpunk spin.
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty spoilers will begin on January 27. Until then, read our guide on how to build a MTG Commander deck, or grab some free MTG Arena codes to unlock a bunch of goodies.
