Close look at N’s Castle, N’s Zoroark ex and more new cards from the upcoming Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together expansion

The Pokémon Company has revealed a new Pokémon TCG expansion called Journey Together. Read on below to learn more:

From memorable art to strategy-building Trainer cards, here’s a peek at the newest expansion.

Celebrate the incredible power of Pokémon and their Trainers battling fiercely together with the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together expansion. As the expansion name suggests, players can team up with beloved Trainers like Team Plasma’s N and Levincia City Gym Leader Iono and their equally esteemed Pokémon to wreak havoc on your foes. Featuring distinctive artwork, Pokémon Trainer cards that will enable you to develop genius-level strategies for victory, and powerful Pokémon ex, this expansion serves up an amazing adventure. Kick off your journey with a peek at some of the memorable art and Pokémon you’ll find in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together expansion, officially available March 28, 2025.

Unsurprisingly, many of the Pokémon and Trainer cards associated with Unova Trainer N can be used together to craft a clever battle-winning strategy. Take N’s Castle, a Stadium card that allows all of N’s Pokémon (both your own and your opponent’s) to retreat—all for zero Energy. The location makes sense: N’s Castle is the perfect fortress to conceal and protect his Pokémon.

But N’s Castle really shines when used in conjunction with N’s Zoroark ex. Like all Pokémon ex, N’s Zoroark ex is a formidable opponent, boasting 280 HP and an Ability that allows its Trainer to discard a single card and draw 2 more. This Ability is reminiscent of Zoroark-GX, a popular tournament card from the Pokémon TCG: Shining Legends expansion. But where N’s Zoroark ex really earns its trickster reputation is with its Night Joker attack. This aptly named attack allows you to choose one of your Benched N’s Pokémon’s attacks and use it. It’s an incredible opportunity to leverage a powerful attack without having to meet that attack’s Energy requirements, considering that Night Joker requires just 2 Darkness Energy to unleash. Of course, the downside to playing any Pokémon ex is that once Knocked Out, your opponent gets to claim 2 Prize cards. But this is where N’s Castle comes into play: N’s Zoroark ex does not have a Retreat Cost, and it’s more difficult for opponents to Knock Out a Benched Pokémon ex.

If you can’t get enough N, you’re in luck! N’s Reshiram is bringing the heat to this new expansion, both literally and artistically. Illustrator rika depicts Reshiram in Overdrive mode, surrounded by flames. N delivers a smirk from the bottom-right corner of the illustration, and his confident expression makes a lot of sense the more you learn about N’s Reshiram. The Vast White Pokémon’s first attack, Powerful Rage, requires just 2 Energy to unleash and does 20 damage for each damage counter on it. Considering that this card could have up to 12 damage counters on it before securing a Knock Out, that’s the potential for up to 240 damage—pretty incredible for requiring just 2 Energy. This attack also calls to mind Reshiram’s Outrage attack from the Pokémon TCG: Black & White expansion, which also happens to be Reshiram’s Pokémon TCG debut.

N’s not the only Pokémon Trainer appearing in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together expansion. The Supercharged Streamer and Levincia City Gym Leader Iono is prepared to ensnare opponents and fans in her Electroweb. Of course, she’s brought her partner Pokémon to the battle. Iono’s Bellibolt ex is ready to keep the whole team charged up with its Electric Streamer Ability that allows you to attach a Basic Lightning Energy card from your hand to one of your Iono’s Pokémon as often as you like. With its Thunderous Bolt attack, this Pokémon ex can do 230 damage—enough to take down even some Pokémon ex—but you’re going to need 3 Lightning Energy and a Colorless Energy to call down the attack. Iono’s a very image-conscious Gym Leader and artist 5ban Graphics is more than up to the task, expressing Iono’s Bellibolt ex as a jolly, rotund, colorful figure with Iono giving her trademark feral grin outlined behind it. As we all know, the bigger they are, the harder they fall, so when Iono’s Bellibolt ex is Knocked Out, opponents get to claim 2 Prize cards.

Illustrated by REND, the grand prize winner of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest 2022, this hyperrealistic Furret card seems to capture every nuance of the Long Body Pokémon. In fact, REND depicts Furret in such astonishing detail that you almost feel like you could reach out and stroke Furret’s soft fur and feel the warm glow of the sun lingering behind it. Furret’s Scratch attack does 40 damage and requires 1 Colorless Energy to execute, and its Jet Headbutt, which does 70 damage, can be unleashed for 2 Colorless Energy. Even if this Furret isn’t dishing out Pokémon ex levels of damage, thanks to REND’s artwork, this isn’t a card you’re likely to forget.

There’s nothing more frustrating than building out a deck with a thoughtful strategy only to have the card you need designated a Prize card. Should that occur, the Redeemable Ticket is ready to save the day: it can shuffle your Prize cards and place them on the bottom of your deck, taking cards from the top of your deck to replace the previous Prizes. Of course, to figure out that the card you need is one of your Prizes, you first need to search your deck. Luckily, there are plenty of Trainer cards that enable that action.

These are just a few of the incredible cards you’ll find in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together expansion. See the other cool cards you can discover when the expansion releases on March 28, 2025.
