Pokémon TCG Pocket has only just released, and it’s already taking the fandom by storm with its utterly gorgeous cards. The gameplay may be simple, but we can’t deny the fun of opening digital packs and finding a beautiful new Pikachu, Charizard, or Mew. The only problem is, some of these cards are so good that we want to get hold of paper versions of them for our collection – and they just don’t exist yet!
The cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket use a mixture of classic card art from the Pokémon Trading Card Game and completely new art that has never been printed on a card. These are the five we most want to see adapted into paper cards – the sooner the better!
Diglett #238
This full art card shows a cross-section of a Diglett burrow, revealing how this curious underground ‘mon lives its life. For every one Diglett you might see on the surface there are dozens more in the tunnels, navigating around pipes, crystals, and of course all their friends!
Immersive Pikachu ex #281
The gorgeous new Immersive Cards take advantage of digital technology so you can zoom through the layers of the art by tapping and holding the card, revealing new details of the scene. But even the basic art of Pikachu is gorgeous – he’s just a little guy chilling in the forest!
Immersive Charizard ex #280
Charizard has a revered place in the TCG: when he was released he was among the most powerful Pokémon cards and, because of that, quickly became the most expensive Pokémon card. Charizard cards need to be flashy and exciting – he’s a big dragon with massive fire attacks! – and this Immersive variant certainly delivers.
Meowth #246
We love depictions of Meowth that show it acting like a regular kitty, in this case, chilling out high above a city street so it can watch everything happening. The clean coloring and thick ink lines remind us of Hergé’s TinTin comics, while the moon’s diffuse light is almost like Van Gogh’s starry night. This feels like a Meowth taking a European vacation!
Lapras #234
We can’t help but love a Lapras that’s obviously having so much fun. The clear, pop-art style art with its detailed waves also reminds us of the classic artwork The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai.
All Pokémon sets have their share of gorgeous cards, particularly those secret rares and illustrator rares. Finding out what the new secret rares will be is part of the joy of opening the newest Pokémon set. Let’s hope we don’t have long to wait before we get some of these great cards in boosters!
