Ares Games, in partnership with Colossus Games, has announced further details about their upcoming Mega Empires line, set for global release in late 2024. The new line will feature updated versions of the previously released Western Empires and Eastern Empires, now rebranded as Mega Empires: The West and Mega Empires: The East.
Mega Empires: The West is designed for 5 to 9 players and emphasizes naval exploration, expansion, and trade across the Mediterranean Sea. Mega Empires: The East accommodates 3 to 9 players and focuses on empire-building along the Silk Road and the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula. Both games cover developments from the Stone Age through to the end of the Iron Age, offering players a comprehensive view of ancient civilization growth.
Following player feedback, the games will include revised rulebooks that have been streamlined for better consistency and clarity. These changes aim to make the games more accessible to both new and returning players.
The series will also introduce Neoprene Game Mats, available at a scale 125% larger than previous editions. These mats are designed to fit together seamlessly and offer a premium, durable playing surface.
The Special Buildings expansion will be updated as well, simplifying some of the original complexities while adding versatility to the buildings’ roles in gameplay. The expansion will include 18 buildings and an additional board for storage.
For those who own the first edition of the game, Mega Civilization, an update pack will be available. This pack will include additional rules for games with 3 or more players, new components, and a Market board.
