Dynamite has announced the extension of Army of Darkness Forever series by Tony Fleecs and company, with the series now set to run past six issues to treat fans with even more of the horror and comedy epic!
The original Army of Darkness film remains a hands-down classic, arguably the pinnacle of the character of Ash Williams. Dynamite has published official comic books starring the character and his groovy escapades going back to 2004 — in fact being the first ever comics released by the company. But no series has quite filled the same hyped role as Forever. Picking up immediately following the conclusion of the beloved film — but not the way many may remember, it’s an essential addition to the canon.
Sam Raimi’s vision for Army of Darkness had an alternate ending that was deemed too pessimistic at the time, replaced for the initial theatrical release with a more hopeful take, and only seen later by diehard fans. Now, top-selling writer and creator Tony Fleecs, of hits like Stray Dogs and Local Man, is finally opening that metaphorical Necronomicon and giving fans the ultimate story they’ve wondered about for over 30 years. Jumping between three fun timelines of the S-Mart aisles of 1993, the Middle Ages of Castle Kandar, and the largely unseen techno dystopian landscape of 2093, it’s a triple treat of Ash action!
Thanks to the support of fans, retailers, and critics on the series, it’s been a big hit with horror hounds! Earlier tentatively devised as shorter in scope, this enthusiastic support for this story has resulted in an official extension on the title.
Army of Darkness Forever features writing by Tony Fleecs, joined by artist Justin Greenwood, and top cover artists including Fleecs, Francesco Mattina, Arthur Suydam, and Chris Burnham. Issue #5 is solicited for release in February.
