DC will follow its horror-themed Knight Terrors summer event with a crossover event titled Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War. As the crossover begins, violent crime is way down in Gotham City, but the cost of that civic peace may be too high, and the story will include some major changes to the Gotham power structure.
The storyline will kick off on August 29, 2023, with the one-shot Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War – Battle Lines #1, by writers Chip Zdarsky and Tini Howard and artists Mike Hawthorne and Adriano Di Benedetto, with a main cover by Jorge Jimenez, open-to-order variants by Joe Quesada and Kael Ngu, a 1:25 variant by Otto Schmidt, a 1:50 variant by Ngu, and a 1:100 inked version of Quesada’s cover.
The story continues through Batman #137, by Zdarsky and Jimenez, which will be released on September 5 with a main cover by Jimenez, open-to-order variant covers by Quesada, Gabriele Dell’otto and Rose Besch, 1:25 variant by Salvador Larroca, and a 1:50 variant version of Quesada’s cover. Next up is Catwoman #57, written by Howard with art by Nico Leon. That comic will be out on September 19 with a main cover by David Nakayama, open-to-order variants by Jamie McKelvie and Joshua “Sway” Swaby, a 1:25 variant by Rian Gonzales, and a 1:50 variant based on Sway’s cover.
That will be followed by the two-issue miniseries Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Red Hood, by writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Nikola Cizmesija, which will launch on September 26. It will continue with Batman #138 and Catwoman #58 and will wrap up with Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War – Scorched Earth #1, by the same team that did the Battle Lines opening one-shot, which will be released on October 31.
“From the moment Tini and I started working on these titles, we realized we had a huge opportunity to build toward something that would shake up the power structure of Gotham City,” Zdarsky said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “The Gotham War is just that: relationships explode, relationships are formed, and it all leads to massive changes!
