Games Workshop’s Warhammer Design Studio has announced the core factions that will be at the heart of the up-coming Warhammer: The Old World tabletop miniatures game.
Warhammer: The Old World will be set in the same fantasy world that Warhammer explored, stretching from Bretonnia to the Worlds Edge Mountains before the Great War Against Chaos, as depicted on the Old World map released by the company at the end of 2020 (see “Games Workshop Teases ‘Warhammer: The Old World’ Factions”). Now a more official pronouncement has revealed the identities of five “Good” factions and four “Evil” factions.
On the side of “Good”:
- Empire of Man
- Dwarfen Mountain Holds
- Kingdom of Bretonnia
- Wood Elf Realms
- High Elf Realms
On the side of “Evil”:
- Orc & Goblin Tribes
- Warriors of Chaos
- Beastmen Brayherds
- Tomb Kings of Khemri
All of these factions will receive full rulesets with the launch of Warhammer: The Old World, and they will be the focus of the game’s narrative materials. Other factions from the Old World setting will also get their own rules at launch as downloadable PDFs, but will not be featured in the main narrative, including the Dark Elves, Skaven, Vampire Counts, Daemons of Chaos, Ogre Kingdoms, Lizardmen, and Chaos Dwarfs.
Games Workshop began teasing new models for Warhammer: The Old World earlier this year (see “Games Workshop Reveals First Two Models from ‘Warhammer: The Old World’”).
