A settlement has been reached by Scarlett Johansson and Disney over the theatrical release of Black Widow. Johansson accused Disney of sabotaging the release and was seeking a $50 million payout from the studio. The terms of the settlement are unknown.

Johansson said in a statement:

I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.

Alan Bergman, the chairman of Disney Studios Content also indicated he was pleased with the resolution:

I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding ‘Black Widow’. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s ‘Tower of Terror.’

The lawsuit was over the release of Black Widow which was simultaneously released on Disney+. Johansson claimed that release cost the film tens of millions of dollars in bonuses she’d have received due to the box office results.

Disney shot back accusing the star of disregard of the pandemic and that she had been paid $20 million for her work on the film.

Disney also wanted the lawsuit to go into arbitration citing a provision in her contract. A hearing regarding that was set for March.

Disney revealed in a filing that Black Widow had grossed $125 million on streaming in addition to the film’s $367 million at the box office.
