MTG: these are the first Magic: The Gathering set release dates of 2022

Magic: The Gathering publisher Wizards of the Coast has revealed its first hard-and-fast MTG set release dates of 2022, confirming the release dates and preview events for Innistrad: Double Feature and Commander Collection: Black – along with a first look at two new, promotional cards (you can check those out below).

Innistrad: Double Feature – a one-off monster movie-themed set combining cards from this year’s Innistrad: Midnight Hunt and Innistrad: Crimson Vow – will be released on  January 28, 2022, with its in-store Preview Event running a week earlier on January 21, 2022. Turn up for the event, and you’ll scoop Wizards’ promotional black-and-white version of the Endless Legions of the Dead card. Commander Collection: Black –  a boxed set of eight powerful cards themed around the Black colour in MTG’s Commander game format – also comes out on January 28, packing classic Black Commander cards like Ghoulcaller Gisa and Reanimate.

Wizards has also scheduled two days of ‘Commander Parties’ in physical stores, to coincide with the Commander Collection: Black box arriving. If you rock up to one of those, you’ll get the new promotional printing of the Conjurer’s Closet Artifact card (again, art below). We consider it sufficiently spooky.

The set release dates news came in an update post on Wizards website on Tuesday, as we continue to await details, gameplay teasers, and card spoilers for the next Magic: The Gathering set, Innistrad: Crimson Vow, which comes out on November 19 in physical form, and November 11 on MTG Arena.
