Dav Pilkey’s best-selling Dog Man series is 10 years old this year, and Pilkey is using the occasion to launch a new project: Dog Man Dynamite, an activity book with original games, puzzles, and other activities, featuring Pilkey’s characters from the best-selling Dog Man, Cat Kid Comic Club, and Captain Underpants. The book also includes a 3D Dog Man comic and comes with punch-out 3D glasses for reading it. Scholastic Graphix will release the 48-page, 5″ x 8″ paperback, rated for ages 7 and up, on August 3, 2027, with an MSRP of $7.99.
The activity book was inspired by the children’s magazine Dynamite, which was published by Scholastic and ran from 1974 to 1992. The magazine was founded by Jenette Kahn, who later went on to become president of DC Comics. A second title is planned for January 2028.
“The inspiration for Dog Man Dynamite came from my own childhood and a nod to the Dynamite magazines I loved as a kid. I wanted to create more fun reading material that can help expand kids’ vocabulary and critical thinking skills. My hope is that Dog Man Dynamite will get kids excited about books and reading without even realizing it.”
The first book, simply titled Dog Man, was published in 2016 (see “New Titles from Raina Telgemeier and Dav Pilkey“). The 15th Dog Man book will be released on November 3, 2026 (see “New ‘Dog Man’ Volume“).
