Another publisher has joined the midnight release party for October 7: Ignition Press will release the vampire romcom Dinner Date #1, by Joanne Starer and Khary Randolph, at 12:01 a.m. on that date.
“Dinner Date is the perfect book for our current age of dating,” Ignition Press Director of Sales Daniel Crary said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It is hilarious and horrific in equal measure, which pretty much sums up most experiences on ‘the apps’ in 2026. And dropping this book at midnight is about as a perfect a ‘You Up?’ as we could send to welcome Dinner Date to comic shops.”
Ignition is also offering an early edition of the comic at Baltimore Comic-Con from September 25-27, with a show exclusive cover by Alitha Martinez and Emilio Lopez that’s limited to 500 copies.
Marvel Comics has already cleared its schedule for the launch of its Marvel Midnight Universe, with Midnight X-Men, Midnight Fantastic Four, and Midnight Spider-Man set to release at midnight on October 7. These three comics will be the only Marvel releases that week (see “Marvel Midnight Universe“).
Oni then added a midnight release time for the first issue of its new Sabrina comic (see “Oni Piggybacks on Marvel’s Plans“), as well as a special variant cover for Archie #1, which went on sale on September 2 (see “Special ‘Archie’ #1 Variant“). And Rob Liefeld has joined in as well, with a Avengelyne #1 set for midnight release from Image Comics, with a special midnight variant.
