Arkham Horror, a cult classic eldritch horror board game from prolific publisher Fantasy Flight Games, may well be back in print thanks to an upcoming crowdfunder. The campaign pledges to bring back the classic feel of mid-noughties Arkham Horror with a remastered second edition which, while preserving “classic gameplay,” also promises an upgrade courtesy of “new quality of life components, new art and graphics, cleaned-up rules and much, much more.”

Due to launch in October 2026, the crowdfunding campaign is in a preview stage, outlining what we can expect in broad terms. The Remastered version of the out-of-print second edition promises to include a revised rulebook, updated graphic design, and new artwork. There are also mysterious hints of new gameplay elements, though we don’t yet know what this will entail.

For the uninitiated, Arkham Horror comfortably occupies the mould established by eldritch horror tropes across the years. It’s the 1920s; you and up to seven pals take on the role of investigators, taking to the streets of Arkham City to prevent the rise of an ancient horror. You’ll fight monsters and close rifts to other dimensions. It’s dark, eerie, foreboding, and a great way to spend a board game evening, even if it didn’t quite end up on our best board games list.

The remaster comes as the first part of Fantasy Flight Games’ ‘Vault’ series, which aims to offer crowdfunding projects to resurrect out-of-print titles and render them available once more. Given Fantasy Flight’s immense back catalogue of titles, this series could plumb some rich depths.

On this basis alone, the Arkham Horror remaster is well worth a look. If the crowdfunder is successful come October, it could lead to the re-emergence of other out-of-print favorites, including cult classics Android: Netrunner and Runewars.
