Warhammer 40K: My World Eaters Gotta Purge the Foe!

Here’s how my World Eaters will adapt and overcome the new rules changes –  using Purge the Foe with a little help from my Forgefiends!

Goatboy here with a bit of chatter on the changes that happened to World Eaters and how I will be adapting to them.  Overall the recent 40K update didn’t really hit the World Eaters too hard.  The only stray smack was the Defiler but that was ok as it is still the cheapest one.  I think at least one in most armies will be good and with some of the other changes we can look at it being an assault monster instead of the shooting backbone of the army.  Let’s discuss the new list I want to play and how I might shove it all together.

I have talked about how I like to exclusively play Purge the Foe.  It is the mission style I like and I want to play World Eaters that way.  This means I have a few options to play that way.  I can go with the Berserker Warband which is a fine Detachment.  It is still probably the best and while not the most interesting it has a lot of things going for it.  It has the Battle-Lust Enhancement, Berserker Glaive, and Favored of Khorne.  It has some excellent stratagems and just works pretty well.  It is also pretty dang boring.

Lucky for the World Eater player it also has another Purge the Foe Detachment in the Possessed Slaughterband and while it isn’t the best one it does have some fun stuff for our Eightbound obsessed Warhammer player.  You can grab that detachment and throw in Vessels of Wrath to let you Slaughterbound get a little bit crazy with extra attacks and other fun things.  It feels like it could be a pretty wild set of options but will look at it more later and just build out the army with basic points.

Lucky for me – most of the World Eater updates had point drops.  I have a crap ton of Eightbound Options so getting all of those lower is amazing.  The other amazing thing is the Forgefiend took a pretty big drop and when you add in those Hades Autocannons you get a platform that can throw out 20 shots within 18″ that reroll to hit the closest target.  You can even throw the Close Combat head on there to let the monster get 8 attacks that are AP -1 and flat 2 damage.  This guy isn’t gettin stuck in combat.

Putting the World Eater List Together

Let’s start with 2 Forgefiends with Autocannons and Forgefiend Jaws and then one Defiler with Baleflamer and Ectoplasma Cannon with Electroscourge.

Forgefiend – Hades Autocannon X 2, Forgefiend Jaws – 140
Forgefiend – Hades Autocannon X 2, Forgefiend Jaws – 140
Defiler – Baleflamer, Ectoplasma Cannon, Electroscourge, Excruciator Cannon X 2 – 270p

Total – 550pts

This gives you some beef to hold the backfield and punch up if things get closer.  From here we can start looking at some of the Exalted Eightbound and Eightbound Variants.

Exalted Eightbound X 6 – 265
Exalted Eightbound X 3 – 130
Exalted Eightbound X 3 – 145
Eightbound X 3 – 125
Eightbound X 3 – 125
Eightbound X 3 – 140

Total – 930pts

From here we need some Leadership for this army.  I think 3 Slaughterbounds feel right at home.  Most likely 2o of them will get some Enhancements to help let them become true leaders of their units.  Will leave that off of there til the end.

Slaughterbound – 100
Slaughterbound – 100
Slaughterbound – 100

Total – 300pts

Right now we have 220 points left over which leaves me looking at a few things.  I think some Jakhals to hold out your back end will be important.  I also wonder if a Goremongers unit will be helpful too as something that can just get in the way and still give us some options.  Let’s throw in 2 Jakhals to finish this up and then I can look at some Enhancements.

Jakhals X 10 – 65
Jakhals X 10 – 65

Total – 130pts

Total right now – 1930 points which leaves me 70 points to get Enhancements with.

Purge The Foe World Eaters Tactics

This is all about trying to have multiple waves of damage as well as a few big monsters to shore things up. I have something similar built with Rhinos and Zerkers but I feel this one fits my play style a bit more.  I like the idea of utilizing the Forgefiends with Autocannons as a spray and pray sort of option for the army.  Plus it can just randomly charge and punch up into things at times.  My EC builds are going to have to go back to the building block as I need more bodies to get what I want to play with to work.
