Dynamite Entertainment has announced that Greg Pak will be the new writer for ThunderCats as the series enters a new story arc and introduces a new character.

Pak will take over as the lead writer on ThunderCats, working with artist David Cousens to usher in a new era and launch a new character.  The ThunderCats are sharing Third Earth with the SilverHawks and other societies when a meteor brings instability and a new character, the Feral King, arises.  The first issue will have covers by Cousens, Mark Spears, Daniele Cellini, Stephen Byrne, and Seth Damoose, and blind bags will also be part of the program.

“I’ve been hungry to dig into a story like this for years,” Pak said in a statement accompanying the announcement.  “Anything can happen on Third Earth, and if you’ve ever watched the original ThunderCats cartoons, you know that anything and everything did.  There’s a huge element of surprise and wildness to this particular mix of science fiction and fantasy, and we’re taking it as far as we can. I’m also thrilled to be working on a story that feels deeply relevant about heroes slamming up against the limits of monarchy and teetering between triumph and catastrophe as they struggle to become a free people. Huge fun, massive action, big emotion, and searing relevance? You want this book!”

Dynamite got the license for the property in 2024, and the first issue had over 170,000 orders (see “Orders Hit 170K for ‘ThunderCats’ #1”).  The initial series, by writer Declan Shalvey and artists Drew Moss and David O’Sullivan, ran for 25 issues and wrapped up in March 2026, and Dynamite has also published a number of crossovers.
