Steve Jackson Games’ RPG of phenomenally powerful wizards who control pillars of the world, Seven-Part Pact, hits Kickstarter.

Announced earlier this year and on Kickstarter at last, Steve Jackson Games’ Seven-Part Pact, a new RPG from the creators of Wanderhome, wants you to become one of the most powerful wizards in the universe. Get ready to control one of the seven pillars of the world. And to learn what it means to be bound by an ancient pact.

Seven-Part Pact – Now On Kickstarter

In Seven-Part Pact, you play as one of the seven great wizards of a faraway archipelago. But you are no mere apprentice or adventurer; you play as a wizard who governs one of the very pillars of creation. What does that mean? Well, in a nutshell, you can change the rules of the game as you play it.

It is such a cool concept, one that immediately puts me in mind of the heyday of many a play-by-post RPG forum game, where you’d play as gods of some domain. There were/are a lot of those, with rules that run from ‘extremely loose guidelines’ to ‘someone’s passion project power system they’ve put 10,000 hours into’. But in Seven-Part Pact, the game isn’t about the power you wield, not entirely. It’s about relationships.

Because it’s a game that you play with your friends (you need at least three, and as you might imagine no more than seven), and it’s all about the things you do with your fellow wizards. You might train apprentices, help the people of your domain, cast magic spells, or just schedule scenes with other characters.

“Seven-Part Pact, from the creators of Wanderhome, is a fantastical, ornate TTRPG in which players become the most prolific wizards the universe has ever seen. Each sorcerer governs one of the seven parts of the world, yet they are trapped by the pressures of their future and an ancient Pact. It is a roleplaying experience that is truly unlike any other.”

And when they say ornate, they mean ornate. The goal of the Kickstarter is to create a deluxe boxed set that is a physical delight. Which makes sense, since this is from the Possum Creek folks, who you might recognize as the developers behind Wanderhome and Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast. And in the boxed set, there’s a ton of stuff, from an actual Grimoire and Codices for each wizard, to a map of stars and domain boards and all sorts of accessories to help facilitate your play.

If you want an RPG that leans heavily into parlor LARP territory, you should definitely check this one out. They’ve already more than tripled the funding goal, with a month to go and stretch goals a-plenty in sight.
