New updates revealed for the 2027 Pokémon Championship Series, Chicago to host 2027 North America International Championships and more

The Pokémon Company has revealed new details for the 2027 Pokémon Championship Series season, including the official event schedule, Championship Point updates, World Championships qualification changes and new competitive policies across multiple games. The Latin America International Championships will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, in November 2026, the Europe International Championships will return to London in February 2027 and the North America International Championships will move to Chicago, Illinois, in June 2027, while additional Regional Championships and Special Championships have also been added to the official season calendar. Championship Point awards and Best Finish Limits have been updated to reward more points to lower-finishing competitors at Regional and International Championships, Travel Award tiebreakers will change beginning with the 2027 Europe International Championships, Pokémon VGC Global Challenges will continue throughout the season beginning Sept. 24, 2026, and no Grand Challenges are currently scheduled.

The Pokémon UNITE Championship Series will no longer be part of the Pokémon Championship Series beginning in 2027, with a standalone in-person Pokémon UNITE event planned for Japan, while the 2027 Pokémon GO World Championships will introduce 3-on-3 team play with teams formed from individually qualified players. Additional updates include revised age divisions for the 2027 season, new age eligibility requirements for Pokémon Champions competitive play in Germany and Brazil, confirmation that both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 family systems will be permitted for the 2027 Pokémon Video Game Championships season and updated World Championships invitation allocations based on Championship Point leaderboard standings.
