The small publisher Manga Mavericks will publish a deluxe edition of the classic gender-bender shojo manga The Sword of Paros, by Kaoru Kurimoto, author of the Guin Saga novels and manga (see “Vertical Plans Fall Manga Launches“), and artist Yumiko Igarashi. The three-volume fantasy series, set in a war-torn kingdom, revolves around the romance between a strong-willed princess who believes she is a man in a woman’s body and the laundry maid she once rescued (while disguised as a prince). The Sword of Paros was first published in 1986-7, then collected into three volumes; Manga Mavericks will present the entire story in a 580-page hardcover omnibus with a 7″ x 10″ trim size, spot gloss on the cover, and sprayed edges. The manga is rated 13+ and will be released in April 2027 with an MSRP of $54.99.
The digital manga platform Omoi (formerly Azuki) also announced it has the exclusive digital license for The Sword of Paros.
Manga Mavericks has also licensed a collection of short works by award-winning creator Taiyo Matsumoto (see “Manga Mavericks Licenses Early Work by Taiyo Matsumoto“).
