Goatboy here with my three biggest hopes for the upcoming 11th Edition 40K codexes. Every army could use some of these.
We have some time before we get the new 11th Edition Ork codex coming our way. I have high hopes for the book as the previewed army rules and amount of detachments shown gives us lot of things to think about. Today I want to talk about top three things I hope to see with the new books that come out. It feels like we just got some rules late in 10th edition and I hope we get a cascade of codexes to let all the armies catch up a bit as we continue moving on with this new edition.
More Support Characters
There are a lot of these armies that have a ton of HQ’s and support armies. There are also a ton of books that just don’t have these options like the others. I was hoping the character creator would somehow show up as a part of the main rules but will just have to wait and see if it ever really does. Or if that style of option is built into each codex. I just really want to see more of these types of roles showing up in the books. It is a really neat method to help build up more heroic units and having more Support options just lets you build things uniquely. There are so many of the newer armies that feel like if they had one or two more options at a leader role for different units they could actually see those options on the table top. A good example is just looking at the World Eaters and not seeing any kind of Terminator leader for the army.
A Better Handle on Detachments and DP Costs
I really hope we see some of the old 3 DP costing options in the books get tweaked so they can become a 2 DP option. The ability to mix and match some of these things is really going to make 11th Edition sing when we build out our lists. I want to see options where you can truly build something out based on the models you like and make it worth it to show up on the table top. I expect the Ork codex to have options that push specific unit pretty hard – with things like a true Flash Gitz option, a Gretchin force, and even something that has you specializing in cool sneaky Kommando Gitz. I really want to see these things thought out well with ways to stack a few cool rules or your army and let you play the style you want. The Top-Down design aspects really interest me as they can cascade into new forms of play style, interesting enhancement options, and just a cooler streamlined set of rules to play with.
A Better Handle on Rerolls and Consistency
I think this game should punish bad rolls more and I hope we see it in the upcoming codexes. I think a move back to where a miss is really a miss would help curtail some of the brutality we currently see in the game. It is the same idea that any kind of modifier to your hit, wound, or damage role should be a sacred thing and continue to affect the outcome. We need more things to hurt your gameplan more than just facing off against a superior army. You should have the chance to critically fail and worry about it. We also should then allow things to be tough and costed correctly to help sell that idea for the game. I know Orks didn’t have a ton of rerolls before so I hope we continue to see the book working the same. Will just have to wait and see what the Marine book ends up being to really feel how the game is going to truly play out as we wait for our updated rules.
What do you hope GW changes in all the future codex to make 11th Edition better?
