Chaosium, maker of Call of Cthulhu among other great RPGs, has unveiled a new RPG set in a sci-fi Victorian London, Time Without Tide.
That’s right folks. Chaosium is back with a new RPG, this time with a whole new engine behind it, that promises tactical combat and “highly customisable character development.” Which, from a quick glance at the pre-launch page for their upcoming BackerKit campaign, seems to mean having vehicles, geart, companions, and mutant powers. It sounds pretty exciting, let’s take a look.

Time Without Tide – Coming August To BackerKit
Steampunk is coming back around again. Though I will say that there are a lot more straight up robots and magic in this post-apocalyptic “faux-Victorian” world, covered in a strange, capital f-having Fog. You play as a Delver, whose whole job is to head out into the dangers and see what kind of danger and treasures you might find.
Probably mostly dangers. Though the BackerKit campaign promises both mirth and misery, including orphans with a taste for parricide, and a big sendup of all things Victorian-era. Which is selling point enough. But I’m curious to see Chaosium’s take on a “tactical combat system.”

And the BackerKit promises an entirely new system and setting. So it’s not BRP adapted to the setting, but some kind of secret other thing. We’ll have to wait until more details come out to know for certain.
“Time Without Tide is a tabletop role-playing game of exploration and adventure within a fog shrouded, faux-Victorian, post-apocalyptic world. You are a Delver, one of the determined heroes who journey beyond fortified walls on fantastic voyages into the world of Fog. Lanterns held high to ward off the Unknown, you will face bizarre horrors, discover glimmering marvels, and protect the odd survivors of the fallen moon.”

With a campaign set to launch later this August, there’s not too long to wait. I’d just bet we something right around the height of Gen Con this year, too. So keep your eyes peeled for a preview.
