Halo: Campaign Evolved is coming to a tabletop near you thanks to Mantic Games!

The latest installment in the hallowed Halo video game series, Campaign Evolved, is coming to consoles and PCs next month, but it will also be coming to your tabletops later this year! Courtesy of Mantic Games, creators of the miniatures skirmish game, Halo: Flashpoint, Campaign Evolved will be a self-contained board game exploring the Halo universe and its newest chapter.

A New Way to Experience Halo

‘We’re delighted to announce the tabletop version of Halo: Campaign Evolved. This action-packed board game sees players step into Master Chief’s iconic adventure, and expands the Halo tabletop experiences we can offer fans alongside our best-selling miniatures game, Halo: Flashpoint.’

Details about the Campaign Evolved board game are thin on the ground, but we know a few things for sure. It’s going to be a 1-2 player game for ages 13+ and launch in Q4 of this year. Beyond those notes, the specifics are mysterious. Still, we can make some informed guesses.

Mantic Games has been crushing it this past year with their support of Halo: Flashpoint. The miniatures are awesome, and the gameplay is fast and furious. It seems that Campaign Evolved is not directly compatible with Flashpoint, but we may well see some of those core mechanics or design philosophy brought over to the realm of board gaming.

Mantic is also a miniatures manufacturers, so it seems safe to assume we’ll get a few minis in the box, probably including a new Master Chief. He’s on the box cover, after all.

It’s also cool to see that this game has solo play baked in. I’ve found that I really love it when games include solo rules even though I can usually find a friend ready to play just about any game with me. Solo rules mean that you can take some time to learn the game yourself before diving in with a friend. It’s just a great upgrade for games in general and I’m very pleased to see its inclusion in this box set.

Beyond that, we’ll just have to wait until Mantic has more to say. Though, I suspect we’ll be able to start making some even better informed guesses when the Campaign Evolved video game releases in just a few short weeks. Even if the video game won’t tell us much about the board game’s play and mechanics it’ll likely give us a good idea of the shared or expanded story and what kind of foes that Master Chief will face on your dining room table.
