Goatboy here to go over what you should expect rom those new sexy Ork leaders coming in the Armageddon 40K 11th Edition starter box!

This past week had GW showcase some of the new Ork leaders coming in the Armageddon boxed set.  The new box gives a pile of new options for your Ork army and I think it showcases a few interesting things beyond just an angry green space bro.  Overall I feel the Ork side of things comes out pretty strong with the new boxed set and hopefully that continues with the new codex they will get in the coming months.

The support characteristic is an interesting one as it codifies the idea of building units with leaders and their lackeys.  I like this idea and I hope to see it in other armies as a way to customize some of your units and splash some interesting rules out.  I play a lot of armies that feel like the leader/support side of things is too low so I have high hopes for some more expensive clam pack helpers. With that let’s talk about the support roles that showed.

Bigboss

The Bigboss feels like a great little mini “Warboss” leader that feels perfectly set up to add to your Breakerboyz.  Those models – if they keep the same rules they have now – will be a very brutal little unit coming out of a Trukk and into whatever target they get thrown into.  The ability to dole out Sustained hits 1 is a powerful rule and it has me thinking the current War Horde detachment might be going away or shifting what its current rule is.  I love that he has another little rule too in the +1 to charge option as well.  If the Waagh rule stays the same will have some pretty splashy turns with Orks running out of Trukks, advancing, and charging into your lines wrecking some things.

Warboss

The Warboss feels fine in the grand scheme of things.  If there are a few more fun little “support” characters to add in his rules will be pretty good.  He is going to come in with so many attacks on the Waagh turn and utilizing the new Cleave rule.  If you hit a unit of 10 guys he powers up to 12 attacks hitting on 2’s and giving his whole unit most likely hitting on 2’s and 3’ with his +1 to hit roll. Right now we are just having to see what kind of special Enhancements you can get and whatever fun friends he gets to hang with.

Painboy & Bannernob

Speaking of friends we have two Support heroes in the boxed set.  Da Painboy and Da Bannernob.  I think both have their roles in things and while Da Painboy feels like the perfect choice Da Bannernob could be fun in a Nob unit.  Da Painboy will be interesting in how the new attachment rules for your army means even if just the Warboss and a Painboy are left they create a really mean little two model unit with all the stacked rules.  I don’t know if you can still bring back your dead friends two as you continue to be “leaders” of a dead unit so will have to wait and see.  There could be a time that all the guys are dead and then poof he has brought back a few Nobz to get closer to the enemy and charge in for that one last final gasp a Waagh.

I wonder if the Bannernob will do better in a Flashgitz mob to give some invulnerable save action as well a +1 to toughness they need.  It really depends on if they can have some else join them or maybe we get a true Pirate leader option in the Orks upcoming releases.  It is going to be a few months of people screaming WAAAGH with all their new models soon.

Weirdboy

The final hero shown is the Weirdboy.  This is a pretty amazing model and is really dependent on what else you can add with him in a unit.  The ability to teleport your Ork Boyz mob around will be powerful so I hope you can have something else to amplify the Boyz up a bit.  They need more offensive punch in the unit to make sure their charge does something.  I wish his psychic Headbanger ability gave +1 to the number of attacks he could throw out per 5 Ork Models.  As is right now a single shot isn’t going to be worth it most of the time.

I am excited to see more of the Ork releases soon and hope there are some wild ones incoming.  There is the whole Pirate theme that hasn’t shown up enough as well as some room for some nutty Jump options too.  The refresh looks great and really pushes the design of their angry bullies into the right direction.

WAAAGH!!!
