Mad Cave Studios is reprinting the 1984 The Last Starfighter comic as a paperback graphic novel.
The 1984 movie starred Lance Guest as a video game champion recruited to fight an actual interstellar war. Also appearing in the film were Dan O’Herlihy, Catherine Mary Stewart, and Robert Preston (in his last movie role).
The Last Starfighter movie adaptation was published by Marvel Comics as both an issue of Marvel Super Special (#31) and as a three-issue comic book miniseries the same year. The comic adaptation of the film was by writer Bill Mantlo, artists Bret Blevins and Tony Salmons, colorist Christie Scheele, and letterer Rick Parker, with covers by the late Jackson Guice.
The reprint project was put together by the film’s screenwriter Jonathan Betuel and producer Paul Davidson. The latter said, “The Last Starfighter is a movie that thrilled me when I first saw it, inspired me on every subsequent viewing, and continues to be one of the most satisfying wish-fulfillment movies ever.”
The Last Starfighter Movie Adaptation is an 80-page paperback coming out June 23, 2026, for $17.99.
It fits in with the other science fiction adventure titles Mad Cave is publishing this year, including Flash Gordon (see “Dan Abnett ‘Flash Gordon’ Run“) and Defenders of the Earth: Dark Destiny (see “New ‘Defenders of the Earth’ Miniseries“).
