The New Gods stories were created, written, and drawn by Jack Kirby and ranged from universe-spanning epic conflicts between the planets of New Genesis and Apokolips to the streets of Metropolis. The underlying quest was driven by Darkseid seeking the Anti-Life Equation and demanding no free will but his.
The DC Finest format provides an affordable way to read a big chunk of comic history (see “DC Announces ‘DC Finest’ Collections“), and the New Gods saga is an important part of that history. Kirby had just left Marvel for DC, where he mixed myth, imagination, and current events in perhaps his most individual work.
