Spin Master revealed more details on Hellbreak, a new TCG designed by Ghost Galaxy, which will hit store in October 2026.
One of the most buzzworthy games of GAMA Expo 2026 (if not the most buzzworthy) was Hellbreak TCG. The game was originally announced when Spin Master picked up the Universal Monsters license from Universal Product & Experiences (see “‘Hellbreak’“). The game was described as a sandbox horror TCG where monsters fight each other to the bitter end.
At GAMA Expo, more details on gameplay were released. The game is a one-on-one battle between two monster characters who send out allies and minions to wage a turf war at different locations; the primary monster remains in a Vault, and pulls the strings using resources. The game is resource-driven; resources are collected during the Feeding Phase.
The Horror Phase is the primary action phase where players deploy minions, play assets and events and attack different lair locations in attempt to take control of them and deal damage to the opposing monster’s Health Stack, which is comprised of cards from that player’s deck. When a monster’s Health Stack drops to zero, that monster is killed and the game ends.
Spin Master and Ghost Galaxy designers have future pipeline plans for this game, which include adding more monster IPs to the mix (beyond the Universal Monsterverse). The two demo decks given to retailers at GAMA Expo featured two toothy horror icons, Dracula and Jaws (Note: Retailer Demo Kit cards are not reflective of the finished product, and were specifically printed to preview the game).
