What’s your favorite card art?
Poisonous pals Naganadel and Nihilego are a bitter pill to swallow for your opponents.
The latest Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket expansion, Extradimensional Crisis, adds a toxic touch to your matches with the introduction of Darkness-type Ultra Beasts Naganadel and Nihilego. Together, they can make your opponent’s Pokémon Poisoned to tick down their HP and bring them into KO range for a heavy hitter such as Guzzlord ex to come in and finish them off.

2× Poipole (Extradimensional Crisis) |
2× Naganadel (Extradimensional Crisis) |
2× Nihilego (Extradimensional Crisis) |
2× Guzzlord ex (Extradimensional Crisis) |
2× Celesteela (Extradimensional Crisis) |
2× Professor’s Research (Promo) |
2× Lusamine (Extradimensional Crisis) |
1× Guzma (Celestial Guardians: Lunala) |
1× Cyrus (Space-Time Smackdown: Palkia) |
2× Poké Ball (Promo) |
2× Poison Barb (Celestial Guardians: Lunala) |
Game plan: Poipole is your best bet as an early-match lead Pokémon since its Evolution, Naganadel, does a decent 40 damage and makes the opposing Pokémon Poisoned with its Electro House attack—all for only one Energy. Nihilego’s More Poison Ability, which causes the Defending Pokémon to take +10 damage from Poison, is still effective even from the Bench. If you end up starting the game with a Pokémon that doesn’t cause Poison on its own, attaching a Poison Barb Pokémon Tool card can get the toxins flowing.

Celesteela is a must-include in this deck. Since all of the Pokémon included are Ultra Beasts, Celesteela’s Ultra Thrusters Ability will just about always provide value. But if you need Energy in your discard pile to get the most out of the new Lusamine Supporter card, which can retrieve two random Energy from your discard pile and attach them to one of your Ultra Beasts, you may want to pay the Retreat Cost instead of using Celesteela’s Ability. This can be a good way to move Energy from one Pokémon to another. But note that you can’t use Lusamine unless your opponent has gotten at least one point!

We mentioned Guzzlord ex as a good finisher that can pick up Knock Outs after Naganadel’s Poison does enough chip damage. Its Tyrannical Hole attack has a pretty hefty Energy cost—this is when Lusamine could come in handy. Don’t snooze on Guzzlord ex’s Grindcore attack in the meantime, though—the possibility of swatting Energy off your opponent’s Active Pokémon can be helpful, especially if Guzzlord ex ends up in a pinch while you’re gathering the Energy needed for Tyrannical Hole.

Alternate cards: If you want to experiment with a deck that runs fewer Pokémon, consider including Trainer cards such as Team Rocket Grunt, Mars, Sabrina, or the newly released Repel Item card instead—these are all good options for disrupting your opponent’s strategy. While this deck includes plenty of Pokémon, you may also want to try using different Pokémon that synergize with the Poisoned condition, like Genetic Apex’s Weezing or Alolan Muk ex from the Celestial Guardians expansion.
Have fun experimenting and finding the perfect concoction of poisonous Pokémon for a potently powerful deck!
