Longtime Diamond Previews editor Marty Grosser has posted that he’s still employed by the new owners of Diamond Comic Distributors, but that he’s “..open to new opportunities,… should my situation change in the near future.” The post last week came as retailers and publishers look to new Diamond owner Ad Populum for their plans for Previews and Diamond.
Grosser has been the editor of Previews for 37 years, or 441 issues, he wrote in his LinkedIn post, a run in which only two issues have shipped late, one during a blizzard, and the other in the early days of the Covid pandemic.
After such a long run, Grosser said he’s disappointed in the current situation. “I love this publication, and the comics industry itself, and it truly pains me to see the turmoil in the industry since the cascading negative effects of the Covid pandemic and Diamond‘s bankruptcy,” he wrote.
If Grosser moves on, he would only be the latest in a brain drain that is affecting Diamond management at multiple levels (see “Alliance Entertainment hires Seven“).
It sounds like there‘s still uncertainty about Ad Populum‘s path forward. We do know that July Previews text files have been seen, so the next issue, at least, appears to be in the pipeline, good news for retailers watching carefully for news about the data flow from Previews under new ownership (see “Retailers Fear Loss“).
