Official Lunala ex and Giratina ex strategy revealed for Pokémon TCG Pocket

The Pokémon Company is continuing to reveal new content for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. Read on below to learn more:

Manipulate Psychic Energy as Lunala ex and Giratina ex lead the charge against your opponents.

Lunala is extremely striking, and this Legendary Pokémon has earned many fans since it first appeared in the Alola region. Its arrival in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket as a Pokémon ex is sure to delight Trainers, especially when they experience how capable it is at controlling the field of battle. Lunala ex’s Psychic Connect Ability can move all Psychic Energy from one of your Benched Psychic-type Pokémon to your Active Pokémon. Being able to shuffle Energy around as needed allows you to easily switch attacking Pokémon, so you’ll want a team stocked with Psychic types and lots of Psychic Energy in play.

2× Cosmog (Celestial Guardians)
1× Cosmoem (Celestial Guardians)
2× Lunala ex (Celestial GuardiansLunala)
2× Giratina ex (Shining Revelry)
1× Necrozma (Celestial GuardiansLunala)
1× Giratina (Space-Time Smackdown: Palkia)
2× Professor’s Research (Promo)
1× Lillie (Celestial Guardians: Solgaleo)
1× Cyrus (Space-Time Smackdown: Palkia)
1× Sabrina (Genetic Apex: Charizard)
2× Poké Ball (Promo)
2× Rare Candy (Celestial Guardians)
1× Pokémon Communication (Space-Time Smackdown: Dialga)
1× Giant Cape (Space-Time Smackdown: Dialga)

Game plan: You’ll want to get your Energy acceleration out first—unleash Giratina ex as soon as you draw it so you can use its Broken-Space Bellow Ability to attach an extra Psychic Energy from the Energy Zone once per turn. Your turn will end if you use this ability, so be sure to deploy it only on turns where you don’t need to attack. With your Energy accelerator in place, next you’ll want to get Lunala ex into play so you can shuffle Energy around as needed.

As a Stage 2 Pokémon, Lunala ex is going to be challenging to set up quickly, so including Cosmog, Cosmoem, and Rare Candy in your deck is a must to get it into the fray as soon you can. Professor’s Research, Poké Ball, and Pokémon Communication can help you draw the cards you need.

If you need a wall while you’re setting up Giratina ex and Lunala ex, put Giratina—not Giratina ex—in the Active Spot to soak up damage. Its Levitate Ability allows it to retreat for no cost if it has any Energy attached to it, so you can easily withdraw it as soon as your heavy hitters are ready to jump into the Active Spot.

In the odd case that Giratina (not Giratina ex!) needs to go on the offensive, its Spooky Shot attack deals a not-insubstantial 70 damage (which also happens to be enough to Knock Out most opposing Oricorio, a recently popular counter to Pokémon ex). After Giratina has cleared the path and retreated to the Bench, Lunala ex can move the Energy required for Spooky Shot from Giratina to one of your Pokémon ex.

To fill out your team with another Basic Pokémon, Necrozma is a solid choice—it’s a heavy hitter that can score easy Knock Outs while only giving up a single point if it’s defeated. Although it can’t attack the turn after it uses Prismatic Laser, it at least doesn’t need to discard Energy for its big attack like Genetic Apex’s Mewtwo ex—this keeps Psychic Energy in play for Lunala ex to redistribute. Of course, feel free to experiment with other Pokémon in this role based on the opponents you expect to face.

You’ll be over the moon thanks to the power packed in this Psychic-type deck, Trainers!
