Wizards of the Coast updated their System Reference Document (SRD) for Dungeons & Dragons by releasing SRD 5.2.
WotC’s new SRD 5.2, a document that provides designers and players with the D&D rules that can be used when producing third party 5E material, officially went live on April 22, 2025. As expected, the new SRD includes the rules used to design content based on the 2024 5E rulebooks (see “‘D&D’ Core Trio“). There are several differences between SRD 5.1, which covered the 2014 5E rules set, and SRD 5.2; the bulk of these changes are mainly rewording of game mechanics. However, the document does add more spells, feats, monsters, and equipment for designers to comb through as they craft their 2024 5E material.
There are a couple of interesting highlights to this document. First off, WotC has removed character and creature names that are specific to the D&D IP. For example, the infamous Deck of Many Things has been renamed “Mysterious Deck” and any references to Orcus have been taken out.
Secondly, the SRD will also provide errata for core rulebooks going forward. The SRD will be updated periodically, ensuring that creators have access to the current wording of the rules.
