Abrams ComicArts will release The Essential Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz, a new coffee table book written by comic historian Mark Evanier, this fall.  In addition to the text by Evanier, the volume will include an introduction by Patrick McDonnell, foreword by Jean Schulz, and contributions from 16 other commentators.

“Having loved Peanuts since I was about Charlie Brown’s age (and no more successful at kite-flying), I was thrilled when Abrams ComicArts asked me to spend weeks reading and writing about the comic strip that was so much more than just a comic strip,” Evanier said in a statement accompanying the announcement.  “The only drawback was that I tried writing the book sitting on the roof of a doghouse, but I kept falling off.”

Slipcase Cover Design

Book design is by Chip Kidd, and the slipcase will also include a portfolio of Peanuts ephemera: postcards, prints, and embroidered patch, stickers, and a facsimile of a classic Peanuts comic book.

The 336-page 11″ x 8.5″ slipcased hardcover will be released on October 7, 2025, 75 years after the launch of the daily newspaper strip on October 2, 1950.

ComiArts is also releasing a new edition of Only What’s Necessary: Charles M. Schulz and the Art of Peanuts, by Chip Kidd and Geoff Spear, first released in 2015 (see “Interview with Charles Kochman“).
