People on the Move: New CEO at VIZ, New Publisher at Abrams ComicArts

March was a big month for people moves in the comics business, including a new CEO at VIZ Media, a new Publisher at Abrams ComicArts, and an industry vet hired by SDCC, and we round it all up here.

Brad Woods has been promoted from Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of VIZ Media to President and Chief Executive Officer.  Woods held his earlier role for 10 years, after stints in consumer products at DreamWorks Animation and Warner Bros.  He replaces Ken Sasaki, who’s been the VIZ Media CEO for the past 13 years (see “Exec Moves“).  Sasaki is transitioning to Chairman and Executive Advisor.

Joseph Montagne has been promoted to Vice President and Publisher of the Abrams ComicArts division, the company announced.  Montagne has been Associate Publisher since September 2023.  Prior to his role at ComicArts, Montagne spent eight years working across global media businesses for Media-Partipations in France and Belgium.

Massive Publishing Co-Founder and President Kevin Roditeli is leaving the company to focus on creative pursuits, including writing and directing.  The other two Massive Co-Founders remain with the company:  Michael Calero as CEO and Publisher, and Trevor Richardson as Head of Distribution.

Dave Olbrich has joined San Diego Comic Convention, organizers of Comic-Con and WonderCon, as marketing and Publications Editor.  Olbrich has a long history in the comics business, including nine years as Publisher at Malibu Comics (beginning in 1986), and a stint as Director of U.S. Publishing at Humanoids.
