After 25 years, Dark Horse Media, parent of Dark Horse Comics, Dark Horse Entertainment, and retailer Things From Another World, is shutting down its TFAW e-commerce site, one of several “tough decisions” the company is making as it reacts to changes in the business. The site, TFAW.com, will stop processing preorders after April 9, will stop taking in-stock orders after April 21, and will be taken offline on April 30. The three Things From Another World stores, in Milwaukie and Beaverton, Oregon and at Universal CityWalk in Hollywood, will remain open.
The move is the latest of a number of steps Dark Horse has taken early this year to streamline operations, including layoffs (see “Dark Horse Confirms Layoffs”), and the shutdown of Dark Horse Digital (see “Dark Horse Digital Shuts Down”).
In response to a request for comment, Dark Horse provided the following statement:
“After a record-breaking year in 2021 during which the company broke $100 million in revenue, we’ve seen significant changes in the marketplace, including distribution, transportation, and retail. To address these changes, Dark Horse has made a number of tough decisions in recent weeks. This is not a decision made lightly. After careful consideration, we anticipate that this will strengthen our company and help us continue to face the challenges ahead. We sincerely appreciate the time, dedication, and commitment from our staff members, and we are confident that Dark Horse is being set up for a strong and successful future.”
