DC to Omnibize Milligan and Bachalo’s ‘Shade, the Changing Man’ for the First Time

DC will collect Shade, the Changing Man in an omnibus format for the first time. Shade, the Changing Man by Peter Milligan and Chris Bachalo Omnibus Vol. 1 will collect Shade, the Changing Man #1-50, Who’s Who #7 and #15, and a story from Vertigo Jam #1 along with a new introduction by writer Peter Milligan, a new afterword and commentary by artist Chris Bachalo, and an art gallery. The 1,424-page hardcover will go on sale on July 15, 2025, with a cover by Brendan McCarthy and an MSRP of $150.

Launched in 1990, Shade, the Changing Man lasted for 70 issues, all written by Milligan. Bachalo was the artist for 38 of the first 50, with numerous other artists contributing as well. The series was brought under the Vertigo imprint with issue #33. Although the first 19 issues were collected in three trade paperbacks, the subsequent issues have never been reprinted in collected form.

Milligan and Tom Grindberg’s 1992 series Catwoman Defiant was included in DC’s first set of DC Finest reprint collections (see “‘DC Finest’ Collections”)
