Marvel to Omnibize ‘The Nam’

Marvel is collecting the first 45 issues of The ‘Nam in a hardcover omnibus for the first time. The ‘Nam: 1966-1969 Omnibus includes The ‘Nam (1986) #1-45 as well as material from Savage Tales (1985) #1 and #4. The 1,120-page hardcover will go on sale on March 17, 2025, with a main cover by Michael Golden and a direct-market only variant by John Romita Sr. with Ron Frenz. MSRP will be $125.00.

Originally written by Doug Murray, a Vietnam veteran, and edited by fellow vet Larry Hama, The ‘Nam had a real time structure, with the storyline set about 20 years in the past and each issue taking place a month after the previous one. Murray and Hama strove for realism, especially in the early part of the series, and many of the incidents were based on historical facts. After issue #45, Murray left the series (Hama was already gone as editor) and the tone and structure changed with the introduction of Marvel superheroes. Artists for the series included Michael Golden, Wayne Vansant, John Severin, Sam Glanzman, and Pepe Moreno. While Marvel has collected The ‘Nam in different trade formats, this is the first omnibus.

Hama also wrote the G.I. Joe comics, which Image is now collecting in the compendium format (see “Original Marvel G.I. Joe Comics”).
