Read on below to learn more about a new Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet expansion:
Discover Dragapult ex, Iron Hands ex, and other awesome cards from the upcoming expansion.
Eevee and its many Evolutions, who have arrived as Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, may be the stars of the latest Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion, Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions, but they’re hardly the only cards waiting to be discovered in this set. In it, you’ll find all sorts of exciting new cards along with reprints of popular cards from recent expansions that feature all-new artwork. Let’s look at a few of the more than 175 cards that can be found when this expansion releases on January 17, 2025.
This Dragapult ex was originally featured in the Scarlet & Violet—Twilight Masquerade expansion, and it reappears here as a (really quite striking) special illustration rare card. This Dragon-type Pokémon bursts into the game with an impressive 320 HP and a Jet Headbutt attack that does 70 damage for just one Energy. Its true power, however, lies in its Phantom Dive attack. With one and one Energy attached, this fearsome attack not only hits your opponent’s Active Pokémon for 200 damage but you can also pepper their Benched Pokémon with six damage counters. Will you apply all those counters to one Pokémon or spread the damage around? Choose wisely, and you’ll set yourself up for success.
We first encountered this Iron Hands ex in the Scarlet & Violet—Paradox Rift expansion, and it makes an appearance here, too, with some wild new artwork as a special illustration rare. This card’s shockingly bold colors certainly add a futuristic flair to this Paradox Pokémon. Iron Hands ex’s attacks require quite a bit of Energy to use, but they pack a solid punch. Arm Press, which costs two and one Energy, does 160 damage. The wonderfully named Amp You Very Much attack, which costs one and three Energy, may only hit for 120 damage, but it has the added effect of letting you take an extra Prize card if your opponent’s Pokémon is Knocked Out by the attack.
Are you a handy Pokémon Trainer who likes working with tools? If so, you’ll certainly want the new Treasure Tracker ACE SPEC card in your deck. Play this card, and you’ll be able to snag up to five Pokémon Tool cards from your deck. Those cards can, of course, be attached to your Pokémon however you choose, but there are also cards that work particularly well with Pokémon Tools. Revavroom ex from the Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames expansion, for example, can have up to four Pokémon Tools attached thanks to its Tune-Up Ability, and the Electrode card from Scarlet & Violet—151 has the Bang Boom Chain attack that does 40 more damage for each Pokémon Tool card you discard from among your Pokémon.
The hulking Tyranitar ex is ready to dish out some damage and disrupt your opponent’s strategy. Its Grind attack, which requires just one Energy, only does 50 damage, but it stacks an extra 50 for every Energy attached to the Pokémon. Given that Tyranitar ex is a Stage 2 Pokémon, that should give you a few turns to attach enough Energy to give Grind a little extra oomph. For one and two Energy, Tyranitar ex’s Tyrannical Crush attack not only does 150 damage but it also allows you to pick a random card from your opponent’s hand for them to discard. Hopefully you choose one they were counting on playing!
When your opponent sends a Tera Pokémon into battle, you’ll certainly want Regigigas on your side. Its Jewel Breaker attack may be costly—requiring four Energy—but it proves especially effective against these powerful Pokémon. The attack usually does 100 damage, but it hits for an extra 230 damage against Tera Pokémon. That 330 damage will make short work of just about any Tera Pokémon Regigigas is up against.
You’ll find these and many more cards when the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions expansion releases on January 17, 2025.
