It’s official – The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 is coming to Amazon Prime Video! Just as the third season of Critical Role’s animated DnD epic wrapped up in late October, we got confirmation that the Vox Machina crew are definitely returning to our screens – this guide tracks our release date predictions, and all the latest season four news.
Beware! Beyond this point lie spoilers for Vox Machina season 3; if you haven’t watched it yet, you can check out our overview behind that link.
The big news now, though, is that The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 has been confirmed on Amazon Prime. Cast members revealed the Dungeons and Dragons show’s renewal in a YouTube announcement on Wednesday, October 23 (watch it below), excitedly sharing with fans that Amazon Prime Video has approved the show for a fourth full season.
Scanlan actor Sam Riegel promises “the gang will be back for more epic adventures next season”, and thanks the show’s loyal audience, adding that “we’re so thrilled, we’re so excited, we’re so grateful… we couldn’t be happier to share this news with you”.
The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 release date estimate
Neither Critical Role, nor Amazon has yet given any indication of a Vox Machina season 4 release date or window – but we can make an educated estimate it’ll hit our screens by around Summer 2026.
The wait between seasons two and three was about 20 months – so if the gap is similar this time, that would place the season four release window in the neighborhood of May to July 2026.

In the meantime, another Critical Role TV series has also been confirmed – The Mighty Nein, an animated series focusing on the second Critical Role campaign. We’ve heard precious little about The Mighty Nein since its announcement in 2023, but, given the good news about Vox Machina’s renewal, we’re hoping to hear more rumblings about it soon – we’ll report the details as soon as we have them.
Vox Machina season 4 cast – who to expect
We can expect the full core Critical Role cast to return for season four – although which Vox Machina characters each cast member plays could be in for a shuffle, depending on how the plot develops.
You can click on those links above for detailed guides to the cast and roles – but here’s a short version:
- Laura Bailey as Vex’ahlia ‘Vex’ Vessar.
- Liam O’Brien as Vax’ildan ‘Vax’ Vessar
- Taliesin Jaffe as Percival ‘Percy’ De Rolo.
- Ashley Johnson as Pike Trickfoot.
- Matthew Mercer as Trinket.
- Marisha Ray as Keyleth.
- Sam Riegel as Scanlan Shorthalt.
- Travis Willingham as Grog Strongjaw.
But there are no guarantees at this stage, until we learn more from CR about the plans for season 4 – and the events of the third season finale Souls in Darkness leaves us with so many questions about where the gang goes from here!
Vox Machina season 4 plot predictions
The closing scenes of season 3’s twelfth and final episode see the Vox Machina crew splitting up into various groups, ready to head off on their own personal quests.
Scanlan and his daughter Kaylie are setting off on a planned world tour as a family; Vax means to accompany Keyleth as she returns to the Fire Ashari for her ‘Aramenté’ testing; the newly coupled Percy and Vex are heading to Whitestone with Gilmore to spend Winter’s Crest with Lady Cassandra; and it looks like Pike and Grog are sticking together after all that, with plans unknown (beyond fucking shit up, of course).
Beyond that general parting of the ways, the S3 finale gives us one major clue as to what we can expect next time around: the last few seconds show us hooded cultists in an apparent Ziggurat, chanting about sight, and voice, and heart, and blood, and some distinctly summoning-esque magical lightning.
Fans of the original Critical Role campaigns already know what that means: the Whispered One, a.k.a. the copyright-safe name for Vecna, is back in the mix. We think that’s a pretty strong indication that everyone’s favorite tear-and-share archlich will be the Big Bad Evil Guy of season four.
We’ll keep this guide updated as we learn more about the upcoming fourth season. In the meantime, for help with your own adventures, try our guides on how to make a DnD character, as well as our breakdowns of the DnD races and DnD classes.
