Atlas Comics Revival Starting at Walmart

Atlas Comics brands are being revived, with the initial product range exclusive to Walmart, and comics for comic stores planned for after the release of an upcoming movie based on an Atlas character.  The first products are Mego action figures with republished classic comic inserts, and apparel from Mad Engine, both exclusive to Walmart.

The four characters, each of which includes a comic insert, are Grim Ghost, Devilina, Phoenix, and the Hands of the Dragon.  Iron Jaw, one of the most popular characters from Atlas, will be incorporated later, Atlas VP of Development Conor O’Farrell told as at New York Comic Con.  “One of the unique things about the Atlas characters is they were all designed from the outset to crossover and interact with each other. He will very much feature in future movies and live‑action television series.  For now, our first wave of characters is these other ones, and then we’ll move into the others.”

A movie based on Devilina is in the works at Paramount (see “’Devilina’ To Be Adapted“), with production expected to be underway in Q2 2025.  Devilina, the sister of Satan, first appeared in Atlas Comics in Devilina #1 in 1975, and was inspired by horror comics seductresses Vampirella and Satana.

Comics will likely be released as stand-alone products after the movie in 2026, O’Farrell said.

Atlas/Seaboard Comics was launched in the 70s by Martin Goodman, and then re-launched in 2010 by his grandson Jason Goodman (see “Atlas Returns“).  In 2019, Ghost Rider Producer Steven Paul’s SP Media Group bought a majority stake in Atlas, and signed a first-look deal with Paramount, which eventually made this project possible. Goodman continues to be involved.
