Fall has fallen, and Hollywood news is dropping all over the place. Time for the weekly round-up!
At the box office this weekend, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice claimed the top spot by a razor-thin estimated margin over Transformers One. The Tim Burton-led sequel to the 1988 hit film topped the box office at $26 million, and the animated origin story of Optimus Primus brought in $25 million. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has earned $226 million domestically since opening three weeks ago (see ” ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Opens with a Bang“).
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- to North American and select international theaters on December 6, 2024. This fan omnibus film recaps the first season of Solo Leveling, a streaming series based on the popular manhwa, and offers fans a sneak peek at the first two episodes of S2. The first season of this series hit Crunchyroll on January 6, 2024 (see “‘Solo Leveling’“).
Netflix is moving forward with its Magic: The Gathering animated series, the company announced. This series, originally helmed by the Russos, was originally headed to streaming in 2022 (see “WotC Sold Over $950 Million“) but was quietly tossed on the back burner after the Russos and their team departed. However, Netflix has now reanimated the series and assigned Terry Matalas as its showrunner and executive producer. Matalas was also named showrunner of the upcoming Vision series (see “New Vision Series“).
Apple TV+ cancelled their Time Bandits series, according to Variety. The series, starring Lisa Kudrow, was canned after one season. This news comes less than a month after S1 completed its run (see “‘Time Bandits’“).
SyFy announced its casting choice for the Revival series, according to Variety. The cast of Revival, which is based on Tim Seeley and Mike Norton’s rural noir resurrection comic series (see “‘Revival’“), will be led by Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen. This series is currently in production in New Brunswick, Canada.
Universal Pictures released a new trailer for the Dog Man animated movie. This movie, an adaptation of the best-selling Dav Pilkey graphic novels (see ” New ‘Dog Man’“), will hit theaters on January 31, 2024.
