Al Ewing, Steve Lieber Team Up for New ‘Metamorpho: The Element Man’ Ongoing Series

DC Comics is bringing back Metamorpho, the Element Man, for a new ongoing series by writer Al Ewing and artist Steve Lieber. The new series will be part of DC’s “All In” initiative and will be a throwback to classic DC comics, delivering a complete story every month while building up to a larger climax. The first issue will be released on December 25 with a main cover by Lieber and variants by Erica Henderson, Ian Bertram and Steve Beach.

Metamorpho, a shapeshifter who can change himself into any element in the human body, was created by Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon in 1965 (see “RIP Ramona Fradon”) and debuted in in The Brave and the Bold #57. He recently appeared in the DC Black Label series Danger Street, by Tom King and Jorge Fornes (see “DC Brings Back Starman, Metamorpho, Warlord for ‘Danger Street’”). The new ongoing series will have a very different vibe.

“This is 100% fun comics, delivered with total confidence, visceral joy and absolutely no winking to the camera,” Ewing said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It’s a love letter to Bob Haney, Ramona Fradon and the spirit of superheroes at their wildest and weirdest—we’re aiming to catch the essential fab-freakiness of Metamorpho like lightning in a bottle and get groovy with it in our own special way.”
