Miniatures products have been excellent choices for retailers to stock over the holiday season since the pandemic. There isn’t much to do outdoors during the cold winter months, and lots of hobbyists use December through March to catch up on their painting, so these products can be good holiday gift items.
There were hundreds of miniatures products that hit the market in 2024, and here are a few that fit as holiday gift selections:
Epic Encounters Local Legends. Steamforged Games produces one of the better combo miniatures RPG product lines, which ICv2 highlighted during Miniatures Week (see “Miniatures Week Feature“). The Local Legends sets offer a step up from the previous iterations of this product type, that offered players an encounter and some sweet miniatures all in the same box, in the fact that these boxed sets have around a $24.99 price point. These are perfect for the holiday shelves as they appeal to multiple customer categories.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar Introductory Set. Entry level products are often fairly popular around the holidays, primarily because gamers are gifting other gamers the miniatures games they want their friends to pick up and play. Warhammer Age of Sigmar has recently turned over a new leaf with their 4E core rules, which have been popular up to this point in the U.K. and U.S. (see “‘Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Book’“). This starter set was released recently, and is a good product to stock as a gift because it helps new players scale up into full-on games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
Heroscape: Age of Annihilation Master Set. The return of Heroscape product was a smash hit at Gen Con, and is selling well in the hobby channel. There is little doubt that miniatures players will be interested in this product for the holidays, especially because the next wave of miniatures for this game is set to hit in October 2024, and a reprint of the core sets are scheduled to hit by the end of 2024 (see “‘Heroscape’ Wave 1 Sells Out“). Mark this as a late season gift that will inspire some December sales.
Warpaints Fanatic Wargamers Paint Set. The buzz from retailers on this set of paints has been unreal this year. Everyone seems to love the new formula from The Army Painter, and this $447.00 set seems like a very useful high-end gift for true miniatures hobbyists.
