Heritage Auctions will auction off a CGC 9.6 with White pages Fantastic Four #1 (1961) and a CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to White pages Curator Pedigree Amazing Fantasy #15 at their Signature Auction on September 12-15, 2024.
The copy of Fantastic Four #1 (1961) in this auction is the highest-graded copy of this book ever auctioned by Heritage. Also, there are no known copies of this book in a higher grade, according to Overstreet. The highest graded copy of Fantastic Four #1 sold by Heritage (a CGC 9.2 with White pages) hammered at $1.5 million dollars (see ” ‘Fantastic Four’ #1 Breaches the Million Dollar Mark“) in April 2022.
The other heavy hitter in this auction is a CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to White pages Curator Pedigree Amazing Fantasy #15. While not as spicy as the CGC 9.6 Amazing Fantasy #15 that went for $3.6 million in 2021 (see “Marvel’s ‘Amazing Fantasy #15’“), it should provide a good test of the market for higher end comics in the post-pandemic market. It should do fairly well, as it is also a pedigreed comic.
There is also an interesting piece of comics original artwork on the block at this auction. The original cover art for Wolverine #1 (1988) by legendary Marvel artist John Buscema is up for sale and already bid up to $90,000. The cover is iconic as the comic was the first Wolverine on-going solo series and featured the character in his black suit for the first time.
