SDCC 2024: Star Wars Black Series Panel Reaction, Booth and Press Photos

We sat through the Star Wars Panel earlier today and while it was pretty light on Black Series announcements, I’m in for at least a couple. We’ve got press photos and booth photos here to check out if you’re interested.

First announced was a figure they showed off a bit earlier in the show, Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh. Vernestra is a character from the High Republic novels who has made the jump to live action in the TV show The Acolyte. In the books and show she has a unique whip feature to her saber so it’s a little disappointing to not see it represented here.

Next up is the alien tracker from The Acolyte, Bazil. He’s a fun one in design, and in general I’m stoked to see more aliens in the line. He goes up for pre-order 7/27.

They also showed a new Cassian, but I’m not 100% sure what he’s from because I could not for the life of me understand what the panelists were saying about this one. They mentioned something about how Andor Season 2 would lead right into Rogue One, and since it looks to me like the jacket he wears at the beginning of Rogue One on the Ring of Kafrene, maybe he’ll wear it in Andor Season 2 as well? No pre-order date yet.

Also from Andor is the psychotic fascist they actually got me to root for somehow, Dedra Meero. The likeness on this one is pretty great, I could spot her from a mile away.

From Ahsoka, we get another Ahsoka, this time in her snazzy new white togs. Not terribly exciting, but it looks nice. Ahsoka will be up for pre-order 7/27.

I’ve sort of cooled off on army building, but I could go for a couple of Moff Gideon’s Imperial Armored Commandos from The Mandalorian Season 3 for Mando to fight. I like the gloss of this guy’s armor. This one also goes up for pre-order 7/27.

Finally the deluxe IG-12 is probably my favorite reveal of this show. They recognized in the panel that the previous figure was too small and that they needed to re-tool him and they’ve done a nice job engineering him so Grogu can drive him around. The two Babu-frik’s are a nice addition, “BABY NO SQUEEZIE!” He does look taller than the other figures in the booth, so I’m hoping they can re-do IG-88 and IG-11 eventually. This one goes up for pre-order 7/27.

Black Series Pipeline reveals include a deluxe Kelnacca, Moff Gideon armored, Moff Gideon’s Praetorian Guards, Anakin and Rex from the Ahsoka flashback scenes, Commander Bacara from Episode III, a Battle Droid Commando, and Prince Xizor from Shadows of the Empire. Overall, not a terribly exciting panel and it highlights again for me how badly I want to see more aliens from the OT in this line, specifically cantina guys or Jabba’s goons.
