Savage Crucible: Savage Lemurian Feature

The good people at Savage Crucible were kind enough to send along a sample figure from wave 1 for review and I was very excited to check out what looked like some interesting articulation in advance of pre-orders for wave 2. I’m always on the lookout for a new 1/12 ish scale like to collect and customize. Let’s take a look at the lethal lizard man from Savage Crucible!

The box has a nice big window and some cool detailed art on the sides. When I got the shipping box, this was on the white shipper and looked fantastic. I wish I took a picture of it. My favorite part of the packaging is that there is a map of the world drawn on the insert. Also included is a trading card with RPG stats which also adds to the world-building.

The figure comes with a weapon and two sets of alternate hands (claw and grip). The hands swap easily and the grip hands hold the weapon well.

The weapon is a super fun design based around a giant predator’s jaw bone and embellished with a metal handle and blade at the tip. I love the detailed sculpting with the cracks and striations in the teeth and the paint has a nice wash that brings out all the textural detail. I think he can wield it either direction, you either get hit with the teeth or the blunt club mixed with the slicing metal tip.

The sculpting on this guy is wonderful with so much varied pebbly texture and a solid, but lithe muscular build. The head has a great vibe that I associate with Jurassic Park Raptors, so that’s why maybe I want to see slightly bigger teeth, but the tiny little guys in there make sense for a lizard man.

The articulation is also pretty excellent and I’m especially impressed at the range of motion at the ball jointed waist and mid-torso. The double elbows and knees are somewhat similar to some NECA figures where the elbow and knees are a separate piece that swivels and hinges where it connects to the bicep and forearm or thigh to calf. They end up getting about 90 degree bend in the elbow and almost kick his own butt with the knee. I also really love the hinged pecs. Unlike most hinged pecs that peg at the center, these hinge from the front and therefore allow the biceps to move across the pecs better than most pectoral hinges and allow a two-handed sword holding. This is something a lot of fantasy figures these days cannot do easily.

The Savage Lemurian has:

  • Swivel/hinge shoulders, double elbows, hips, double knees, tail, and ankles
  • Hinged pecs, jaw, and toes
  • Ball and socket waist, mid-torso, and head

Something worth noting is that the articulation all feels solid and tight and moves well.

Paint is pretty nuts with a nice varied pattern over the body with subtle transitions between colors and striking black stripes. The eyes pop nicely and the loincloth has a bit of dry brush that brings out that detail.

Overall, this is a super-solid monster figure that moves well, looks great and is a lot of fun. He’s just about 7 inches tall, so would work with a lot of different lines like Legends, Classified, and Mythic Legions. I think he’s a bit on the short side for the NECA D&D, but it’s a creature, so I think it’s fudgeable. I’m kind of kicking myself I didn’t grab a couple of the slate figures for use with other lines, but I am going to be figuring out a pre-order for wave 2 which features barbarian characters, a beast man, and and evil looking knight. The wave 1 figures seem pretty scarce at this point, though I’m seeing some on Aliexpress. Wave 2 pre-orders are up until 8/16 on Savagecrucible.com.

Thanks to the Savage Crucible team for sending this figure along. My apologies for the lateness. Unfortunately Fwoosh crashed right when I was getting ready to review this guy and he was buried under a deluge of new releases when we came back up. Doesn’t look like you guys needed my help selling these though as the in-stock sellout indicates!
