Sinister Fish Games is set to introduce a new board game, “Yonder,” on Kickstarter, scheduled for July 16th. The game is designed by Haakon Hoel Gaarder, previously nominated for a Golden Geek Award for his work on games like Villagers and Streets. “Yonder” is a fantasy worker placement game designed for 1-4 players.
The game involves players establishing a thriving community near a mysterious city using a variety of fantasy race workers such as dwarves, elves, goblins, ogres, and skeletons. Each type of worker has unique abilities that influence the gameplay, especially in terms of job assignments and resource management.
“Yonder” is structured around building and expanding a community through three types of buildings: ‘A’ buildings focus on resource production, ‘B’ buildings offer resource manipulation, and ‘C’ buildings, which appear later in the game, provide opportunities for scoring points.
Ships play a crucial role in the game, with each player starting with one unique ship. Ships are used for transporting workers and executing trades with envoy characters, contributing to the game’s strategy by offering unique advantages and additional resources.
Players engage with envoys by claiming cards and fulfilling contracts, which integrate into their tableau and provide ongoing benefits or penalties depending on their management of resources.
The Kickstarter campaign for “Yonder” will include a standard and a deluxe edition, with specific prices to be announced. The campaign will also feature a day-one bonus pack for backers, including new buildings, envoys, and ships, as well as daily reveals that will introduce new gameplay content and cosmetic enhancements.
