New Shojo Manga, ‘Lore Olympus’ Volume Make the Top 20; New Titles Liven up the Kids Chart
Some new releases are adding variety to the charts of the top 20 best-selling Adult and Kids graphic novels according to Circana (formerly NPD) BookScan data for May 2024 (5/5/24 – 6/1/24) provided to ICv2.
The latest volume of Chainsaw Man tops the Adult chart, followed by the hardcover edition of Vol. 6 of Lore Olympus; both are May 2024 releases. The paperback edition of Vol. 6 of Lore Olympus is in 7th place, following the usual pattern for webtoon titles of the hardcover outselling the paperback, at least in the first few months after release.
It’s unusual to see a shojo manga in the Adult Top 20, but there it is: Vol. 8 of A Sign of Affection. This charming series about a deaf college student is probably getting some support from the anime, which debuted in January 2024.
In 15th place is Vol. 1 of Kaiju No. 8, a series that is typically seen in the Top 20 whenever a new volume comes out. The launch of the anime on Crunchyroll on April 13 is likely giving the first volume of this series a boost (see “A Look at Spring 2024 Anime“).
As usual, manga dominates the Top 20, with a mix of new and first volumes of Shonen Jump series taking up most of the slots.

While Vol. 12 of Dog Man holds on to the top spot on the Kids chart, Vol. 11 has been elbowed aside by the latest volume of Baby-Sitters Little Sister, which came out in May.
Two other new titles are the only non-Graphix books on the list: Sweet Valley Twins: The Haunted House, the fourth book in that series, and the second volume of Max Brallier’s The Last Comics on Earth, the comics spinoff of the highly popular Last Kids on Earth illustrated novels.
