Search for Animals in the Frozen North

Ludonaute will release Arctic, a new animal observation card game, in October 2024.

In Arctic, designed by Ludonaute co-founder Cedric Lefebvre (see “Yggdrasil“), players assume the roles of explorers that are observing animals as they make their way across the frozen tundra. The goal of this game is for players to strategically accumulate a tableau of animal cards and score them for points. Each of the animal cards has a primary animal depicted on the card as well as a placement value, a companion animal, and a draw value.

On their turn, players will place cards into play on their turn from their hand, based on the placement value of the visible animal card. For each card they can’t place on the board, they will place a facedown card from the deck into their penalty pile. The main animal played then moves across the landscape in the opposite direction from their companion animal based on the placement value.

Players replenish their hand from a “river” pile at the end of their turn until the deck runs out. Once the deck runs out, players finish the round, points are scored, and the player with the highest points wins. This game is for two to four players, ages 10 and up, and plays in 20 to 40 minutes.
