‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Trailer; New Date for ‘Kraven’; ‘Clue’ Movie and TV; ‘Wednesday’ S2 Casting; remastered ‘LotR’ to Theaters; AWA Gets Hollywood Exec

As we head toward May, Hollywood shows no signs of slowing down the movie and TV news, and we round it up here.

Marvel has dropped a full trailer for its upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine feature, which is planned for release in July (see “Movie Calendar – 2024“).  The only previous footage released was from a teaser released around the Super Bowl (see “’Deadpool and Wolverine’“).

Sony juggled dates for some upcoming movies this week, moving Kraven the Hunter (see “’Kraven’ Trailer“) from August 30, 2024 to December 13, where it will be up against anime release Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim, according to Deadline.  Sony’s Karate Kid was moved from the December 13 date to May 30, 2025. (For the full schedule of 2024 geek films, see “Geek Movie Calendar – 2024,” and for 2025, see “Geek Movie Calendar – 2025.”)

Sony Pictures Television and Tristar Pictures have acquired rights to develop adaptations of the Hasbro game Clue, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  This replaces the deal for Fox to develop a Clue feature with Ryan Reynolds from back in the late teens (see “Deadpool Star in ‘Clue’“).

Thandive Newton (Westworld) and Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) have joined the cast of Wednesday for its second season, according to Variety.  The series was renewed for a second season early last year (see “’Wednesday’ Renewed“).  Production on the new season, which was delayed by the actors and writers strikes, is expected to begin late this month in Ireland, according to the report.

Fathom Events will release a remastered The Lord of the Rings trilogy into theaters over three days in June, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  These are the extended Peter Jackson cuts, which he remastered in 2020 for a 4K Ultra HD rerelease.  The extended cuts were originally released in 2011 (see “Top Release of the Year“).  The Fellowship of the Ring will show on June 8, The Two Towers on June 9, and The Return of the King on June 10.

Longtime Hollywood executive Victoria Rossellini will serve as senior strategic advisor to Artists, Writers & Artisans film and television division AWA Studios, the company announced.  In that role, Rossellini will guide strategic industry deals and help build film financing capability.  The first films on which she’ll be involved, all based on AWA comic properties, are Hotell, Marjorie Finnegan, Temporal Criminal and Old Haunts.
