Cryptozoic Entertainment, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, has initiated a Kickstarter campaign for “Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game.” The campaign quickly achieved its funding goal within one hour of going live.
This new tabletop RPG, which is compatible with fifth edition (5E) rules, allows players to engage in adventures within the Adventure Time universe, known as the Land of Ooo. The game introduces several gameplay mechanics inspired by the animated series, including the “STORY” character origin system, exploding dice mechanics, and Adventure Twists, which are designed to enhance player creativity.
The core game is detailed in the “Prismo’s Guide to Adventures in Ooo,” which serves as the primary rulebook. Players can customize their characters by choosing from a selection of species and subclasses, and navigating choices related to their character’s Species, Talent, Occupation, Resources, and Yonder (STORY). The game features an extensive array of magical items and monsters, aiming to provide a rich and immersive playing experience.
The Kickstarter campaign offers several backer rewards, including the Core Book, an Adventure Book titled “Quest for the Shadow Gems,” a Kickstarter-exclusive slipcase, custom dice sets, and various character and game aids. All copies of the Core Book will also include “Jake’s Shmowzow Guide to Roleplaying Games,” authored by Ray Winninger, which is designed to help newcomers understand the basics of 5E gameplay and character creation.
Cory Jones, CCO of Cryptozoic, commented on the release: “Adventure Time created an amazing, fully realized world that fans couldn’t get enough of, so it was the ideal property for our first foray into roleplaying games,”
The Kickstarter campaign will run until May 15, with various pledge levels starting at $50. The campaign includes a number of stretch goals that, if achieved, will add further content and enhancements to the game. Preordered items are scheduled for delivery in March 2025.
