That’s the sound clickbait and rage being fired up for the next year as Deadline has reported that Silver Surfer has been cast in the upcoming Marvel Studios‘ Fantastic Four. But, it’s the Shall-Bal version of the character which will be played by Julia Garner. The casting has not been officially confirmed by Marvel.
Garner joins Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Matt Shakman is directing from a script by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson, and Ian Springer. She’s not new to comic based films, having played Marcie in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. She also voiced Hope van Dyne in an episode of Robot Chicken. She’ll also be seen in the coming Wolf Man film slated for 2025.
Garner is a three-time Emmy winner for her portrayal of Ruth on Netflix’s Ozark. She’s been nominated 37 times for her work having won 9.
Shalla-Bal is the immortal Empress of Zenn-La and former lover of Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer most known. Created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, the character first appeared in Silver Surfer #1 in 2968. The character was imbued with the same cosmic energy as Radd in the Earth X storyline and also became a Silver Surfer.
