This has been one of my most-wanted Spider-variant for a long time, even back when he was only known as Spider-Assassin.
The Spider-verse event pulled a ton of various Spider-variants into a single story line, which ended up being a wellspring of potential action figures. Before Spider-Verse, Spider-Shot debuted in What If? Spiderman Vs. Wolverine as a darker Peter Parker willing to kill. The costume is apparently similar to an unused Alex Ross design. It’s a great look, and has an appropriately sinister motif. Outside of the standard and the black costume, this might be my favorite Spider-costume.
Spider-Shot is on the Retro Spider-Man body, also known as the Renew Your Vows body, so it is on a much better body than the Pizza Spidey. It’s my second favorite Spider-Man body, with the First Appearance body (a slightly smaller body than this one) as my overall favorite. For the most part, this is an well-articulated body, however, I would love if this body’s torso would be upgraded to have a disc-hinge neck instead of the ball joint. This one has that notch cut out of the neck, which technically is supposed to facilitate looking up, but in the end a disc joint ends up dong that job better.
Because of that weaker neck joint, he can’t get into a deep crouch while also looking up, like he’d be able to with a hinge neck.
The figure comes with three pairs of hands: fists, thwipping and two-finger shooting hands. This Spider-man shoots people. It ain’t your daddy’s Spidey.
The shooty hands have a hole for the blast effect to plug into. It’s not the best option because it doesn’t look like the shot is coming from his web-shooters like it should be, but it’s probably the only option available.
Overall, it’s a simple figure, without a lot of frills, but it does what it needs to do and looks great doing it. The Spider-Verse event is now ten years old (!!) so it’s been a long wait to get this figure.
